School Library
Welcome
The library is a welcoming place for choosing books, independent study, quiet reading and research.
There is a regularly updated and extensive range of fiction and non-fiction which reflects the expansion of children’s and young adult fiction. New titles and classic fiction can be borrowed and reserved as well as a range of non-fiction for both study and leisure interests.
Students and staff can be issued with 2 books for up to 2 weeks. Students can also suggest titles they’d like the library to purchase by filling out a request card or speaking with the librarians.
The library promotes reading for pleasure with regular displays, student competitions and activities. Students can also loan revision guides and access reference books for use in the library.

Helpful Information
Resources
There are 20 computers linked to the school server for homework and quiet study as well as printing facilities.
The Careers Library offers books, magazines and information on a wide range of topics including higher and further education, universities, employment and apprenticeships.
As well as the quiet study areas available in the library, there is a separate SILENT study area for Sixth Formers to use throughout the day.
Author Visits and Book Activities
Authors are regularly invited into school to work with students to promote reading, writing and creativity. The library works in association with World Book Day Ltd, the School Library Association, Juniper Education, Book Trust and many other partners to provide a range of activities and reading opportunities for students.
Student Librarians
We invite students in years 8 to 11 to assist in the library as Student Librarians, volunteering once a week. Student Librarians help with tidying shelves, preparing books for cataloguing, creating displays and helping to shelve books. We also invite students completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award to volunteer within the Library as part of their Award. Our Library can be extremely busy, so student involvement is much appreciated and helps both students and staff across the school.

Book Groups
There are opportunities for students to get involved in a number of different book groups. These may 'shadow' an existing 'Book Awards Scheme' or focus on specific areas of interest. Please ask a librarian for more information.
