Food Technology

Subject Leader (Food Technology) - Miss D Taylor

Food Technology

Food Technology introduces students to Safety & Hygiene, Nutrition and Healthy Eating in a way that is easy for them to remember.  Students develop a wide range of practical skills as well as those of organisation, management of time, and weighing and measuring. They design their own products, which become more complex year-on-year, and learn how to evaluate, taste and test products whilst being encouraged to express their own opinions.

Students carry out research to help them with the development and production of new items and to show creativity in their own designs.  They are also encouraged to look at the effects of different cultures on food choices.

Grading

In Key Stage 3, students are graded throughout the lesson on their organisation, use of equipment, and final presentation. Due to time restrictions and food safety, we do not taste-test students’ dishes.

At GCSE, all dishes produced by students during examination assessments will be graded on taste as well as organisation, use of equipment, and final presentation.
