Emphatic Academy Clarets progress through qualifying to FA Youth Cup First Round!

An unrelenting performance from the collaborative Moulsham High 6th Form’ and Chelmsford City’ Academy team, saw them through to the FA Youth Cup's first round proper in an 8-0 win against Felixstowe & Walton Utd.

It took just eight minutes for City to take the lead, with Freddie H bending in a superb free-kick from outside of the box. Just after the fifteenth minute, Reggie G scored his first goal of the night by launching a pinpoint shot into the bottom corner after going on a driving run. Ten minutes later and Luke D played an excellent pass into Gregory’s path for the striker to add his second goal after rounding Kieran B.

Shortly following the third it was four and the goal was the pick of the bunch, with Hockey’s excellent touch sending Alfie G in on goal for the midfielder to dink a shot over Button. Two minutes on from there and Gregory sealed his hat-trick and added the fifth, controlling a jaw-dropping pass from Gilbey well before coolly slotting home.

Between the fifth and the six, Josh W made an excellent save from a curling Tommy S shot to keep the Seasiders out. Gilbey added the sixth, five minutes from the half-time whistle, tapping in the rebound following a Hockey shot from distance. To bag his fourth of the night and Chelmsford’s seventh, an unstoppable run from Hockey was rounded off by Gregory firing in from close range.

The second half saw City consolidate the first-half performance, controlling much of the ball and the play. Despite a few chances for the Seasiders which never really threatened Woodrow, Finn W made it eight goals, ten minutes before full-time. With the Clarets driving forward in numbers, Deslandes threaded a through pass into Wilkes’ path and the full-back made no mistake in hammering his shot in to complete the scoring.

Chelmsford City: Woodrow, Wilkes, Brewer, Lang, Forbes, Payne, Deslandes, Lloyd (Morritt 56’), Hockey, Gilbey (Haynes 79’), Gregory (Konde 66’).

We are tremendously proud of our Academy team and look forward to following their FA Youth Cup progress in the full competition!
