Network Rail visit MHS

Thursday 12th October 2017 - Students in Year 7, 8 and 9 from Moulsham High School took to the airwaves on 9th October to interview Network Rail’s community safety manager, Ryan Ackerman in a unique educational safety session on the school’s radio station.

The interview was part of an assembly session for students at Moulsham High School that warned them about the dangers of trespassing on the railway and encouraged them to use stations and level crossings safely.   Students posed questions to Mr Ackerman for a radio news piece that was broadcast to the whole school at lunch and break times during the week on the school’s radio station.

The event was coupled with a short session about careers as part of Rail Week, to inspire students to think about the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available across the rail sector.

Ryan Ackerman, Network Rail’s community safety manager for Anglia, said:

“Being interviewed by the students on their radio station is something I’ve never done before and a provided unique opportunity to raise awareness of the dangers of the railway and help keep young people safe. The aim of the session is to make clear the potential dangers when around the railway or at level crossings and is a hard-hitting reminder to students to stay safe.”

Miss Mead, Head of School at Moulsham High said:

“We are extremely grateful to Network Rail for raising our students’ awareness of how to stay safe when near railways.  The safety of our students both inside and outside of school is always our main priority and the sessions have been invaluable.”
