Pastoral, Mental Health & Wellbeing
Pastoral
At Moulsham every student is valued and effective pastoral care is recognised as a strength of the school. Tutor groups are supported by a Form Tutor who, together with the Standards & Progress Leaders, provides mentoring and guidance for students on a daily basis and particularly at transitional points in the Key Stages.
We promote community cohesion, developing good relations across different cultures, backgrounds and ethnic, religious, non-religious and socio-economic groups.
Moulsham students are expected to behave in a responsible and civilised manner, to be honest and truthful, to show consideration and respect for others at all times, to work hard, to conform to dress regulations, and to be punctual and attend regularly.
We believe that education is most effective when there is a strong partnership between school and home and the school will make every effort to:
- care for your son/daughter's safety and welfare.
- provide a balanced curriculum appropriate to your son/daughter's needs.
- set high expectation in all aspects of school life.
- monitor the standard of education provided and progress of students.
- monitor attendance, punctuality, homework adn the behaviour and discipline of students.
- contact parents if there are concerns about academic work, behaviour, attendance or punctuality.
- keep parents regularly informed about school matters and events.
- praise and reward student achievements.
- be open and welcoming and offer parents opportunities to become involved in the life of the school and provide opportunities that enable students to play a full and active part in the life of the community, both locally and beyond, during, and after their time at the school.
A high standard of self-discipline is a pre-requisite for a well-ordered and happy environment.

The Curve Foundation, are a local Chelmsford based charity, specialising in supporting children and young people with mental health issues.
This weekly term time activity, provides many students with access to much needed mental health guidance and support, by directly providing preventive action.
Currently, the Curve Foundation have three regular counsellors, that provide support to the students of Moulsham High School. Since the Covid 19 pandemic, the number of young people suffering with their mental health has increased dramatically and wait times with the NHS to see a counsellor, are ridiculously long. Curve is helping to bridge this gap by providing free counselling to our students.
Made for More primarily offer one to one mentoring to our students. Through working closely with the staff, they supply consistent and quality support for young people within the school system.
Working closely with our pastoral teams, each mentor is trained to listen, provide emotional support and space for self reflection. Mentoring is not about fixing or counselling, but about encouraging, listening and signposting. Schools, teaching staff and pastoral teams are under increasing amounts of pressure. Our mentors can offer time and consistency to young people needing to be heard. All mentors are updated with current safeguarding practices.
