  • MHS Student takes to the stage

    Wed 27 Nov 2019

This Saturday, 30 November, will see Year 7 student Henry H take to the stage to perform in his first ever pantomime, taking on the role of Michael Darling in Chelmsford Theatre’s production of Peter Pan.

Having auditioned for the coveted role in May of this year, Henry was overjoyed to secure the part and will perform in 31 performances during the panto’s five-week run.

This isn’t Henry’s first production, in February 2017 while living in Chennai, India, he attended an American International school where he secured the part of Gulliver in Gulliver's Travels and last Christmas saw Henry playing Tiny Tim and a Young Scrooge in A Christmas Carol at The Old Court Theatre.

Henry loves to act, sing and dance and, when living in India, he worked with the Missoula Children’s Theatre. Since moving back to the UK, he’s attended Little Stars drama group in Great Baddow, where he takes LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) acting and musical theatre exams.

Taking part in a production such as Peter Pan takes a great deal of commitment from Henry, he has dedicated many hours to his rehearsals and always ensures he learns a lot from the older actors in the production.

    Break a leg, Henry!

  • Jack Petchey Achievement Awards, 2019 - Student report

    Wed 13 Nov 2019

    Jack Petchey Achievement Awards, 2019

On Monday, 7 October, seven student award winners and one leader award winner from Moulsham were lucky enough to attend the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards for Maldon and Chelmsford. The ceremony took place at the Civic Theatre where we were awarded a winner’s medallion in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Janette Potter and an audience of our family and friends.

We had all been awarded £250 to spend in school, in any department of our choice. This year the award money was used to buy so many resources for our school including dictionaries, whiteboards, art supplies, microphones and books.

Schools and clubs from all over Chelmsford and Maldon attended the ceremony and we were entertained by performers from local schools. The event was enthusiastically hosted by Lee Thompson. He made us laugh with jokes and encouraged us to applaud from the first to the last winner. He also helped us feel less nervous about going on stage in front of everyone. We were all invited on to the stage where Police Chief Inspector Parker presented us with our Jack Petchey medallion.  This made all our hard work and dedication worthwhile. It was a wonderful experience and it is safe to say that we all felt privileged to attend.

  • First MHS Book Festival is a roaring success

    Tue 12 Nov 2019

Last week children’s writer Jenny McLachlan, author of fantasy series The Land of Roar, and spoken-word artist Steven Camden, who also goes by the name Polarbear, visited the school to mark our first MHS Book Festival. The acclaimed pairing delivered highly-engaging creative writing workshops and talks for the school’s Year 8 and Year 9 students.

The MHS Book Festival was only possible thanks to funding proved by The Jack Petchey Foundation, which, in October this year, honoured MHS Librarian Neva Hales with its Outstanding Leader Award. The Leader Award scheme highlights and recognises the incredible commitment of adults in London and Essex who work with schools and youth organisations and are dedicated to supporting young people. Nominations for the award are made by young people who want to recognise the adults who have inspired and supported them.
