  • Continued GCSE success at Moulsham in the new dawn of examinations

    Thu 24 Aug 2017

Thursday 24th August 2017 - Staff worked incredibly hard to prepare students for examinations that no one had sat or seen.  The Maths and English GCSEs were new exams with different content and exam paper styles.  The new 9-1 numerical grades do not map across in a simple way to the A*-G grades.  This is a dramatic break from what has gone before.

Despite all of the changes imposed by central Government and Ofqual, Moulsham High School has continued to maintain its outstanding performance and breadth of offer.  80% of students achieved, what is now deemed, a ‘Good’ pass (Grade 4+) in both English and Maths combined.  36% achieved the English Baccalaureate and 28% of ALL grades across all subjects were A*/A!

Mr M Farmer, Executive Headteacher, said, “I am extremely proud of the students. Their achievements are a reflection of the hard work and determination shown by students and staff alike, as well as positive support from parents. Staff should be congratulated on preparing the students excellently, having navigated all of the imposed changes very well. These impressive GCSE results, alongside last week’s ‘A’ level results, make 2017 (and the last three years), a very successful examination period for Moulsham High School and its staff.  They also compliment the recent ‘2017 Real School Guide’ which placed Moulsham High School in the Top 7% of all schools nationally and one of the Top 3 non-selective schools in Essex”.

  • Record A Level results for Moulsham

    Thu 17 Aug 2017

Thursday 17th August 2017 - Students at Moulsham High School once again achieved outstanding results in their A-level examinations, with the school yet again enjoying its best ever set of results.

    • Over two thirds of all grades achieved were A*, A or B grades, with over 84% achieving A*-C grades.
    • The school achieved an exceptional pass rate in every academic A-level and vocational subject taken with 75 A*/A grades.  Subjects that saw exceptional performances included Chemistry, English Literature, Film Studies, Further Maths, Geography, Government and Politics, Maths, Psychology, Sociology and the Languages.

Mr M Farmer, Executive Headteacher, said: "The school is very proud of the considerable efforts and achievements of all of our students.  It is as a result of their hard work and good work ethic, combined with excellent support from staff and parents, that they have achieved these record- breaking results.  I am delighted that Moulsham's students will leave the school as successful, rounded individuals with every opportunity to flourish in the future.  Given that a significant number of students achieved A*, A and B grades it would not be fair to single out any individuals as all the Year 13s performed extremely well."
