- Careers advice is integrated into the curriculum, and a key focus for this year is to make increasingly clear through lessons and topics, key transferable skills that align with or could contribute to particular careers and or specific roles/areas.
- We continue to use and build upon extra-curricular opportunities and external partnership links to support and indeed, enhance the range of opportunity and access that students have, to engaging and relevant careers advice.

Forensic and Criminal Investigation at Colchester Institute
If your students are interested in how science can help solve crimes then our Level 3 Forensic and Criminal Investigation study programme may be the course for them.
This exciting study programme will allow students to understand the workings of the criminal mind, how crime scenes are investigated, procedures followed and evidence collected and analysed. The Forensic Investigation programme contains a mix of modules that incorporate a range of topics including environmental forensics, forensic fire investigation, applications of criminology, applications of criminal and forensic psychology, forensic genetics and practical scientific procedures and techniques. There is a strong emphasis on practical laboratory work to support the learning.
Students develop transferable skills that are highly regarded by both higher education and employers such as practical and analytical skills, reading scientific text and problem-solving. This programme has helped students join careers as forensic archaeologists, anthropologists, toxicologists, forensic psychiatrists, criminologists, crime scene and fire investigators.
Intended for post-16 learners who have achieved 5 GCSEs including English, Maths and Science and aim to progress to higher education to study forensic science, criminology or psychology, this qualification is equivalent in size to 3 A Levels and is studied over two years.

Top-flight businesses and governments the world over are recruiting for a new elite force: a band of ethical hackers charged with protecting our most sensitive information and the infrastructure that powers our everyday living. Our online workshop is taught by Daniel Wilkinson, a Security Consultant at NCC Group. He gives a beginner’s guide to ethical hacking and the skills you’ll need to succeed, with practical experience of hacking your way into a vulnerable online storefront.
AI in Astrophysics

With new telescopes powerful enough to see galaxies formed in the wake of the big bang, our online workshop introduces the AI helping scientists to interpret this data to identify stars and plot the shape of the universe. Taught by Joe Sims, an AI PhD student at Leeds University, you’ll step into the inspiring world of AI in astrophysics and get first-hand experience of using a neural network to classify stars.

Led by Josh Hills, a programmer on some of the world’s largest multi-player games, including Runescape and Horizon, you’ll get first-hand experience of developing and enhancing a physics-based game prototype and discover the skills you’ll need to succeed.
AI in Engineering

Finding new and optimal ways of doing things is at the very core of engineering. Which makes it the perfect partner for AI and machine learning, from smart production lines to image processing technology that allows machines to see. Our online workshop is led by civil engineer and data scientist, Johan Hagstrom, who will introduce you to key AI algorithms and trends. You’ll also get hands-on experience with Python, being guided through a computer vision algorithm that can detect cars on the road – a peek into the world of self-driving vehicles.

The world of finance has been an early adopter of machine learning, from fraud detection to finance chat bots, yet it’s still just touching the surface of AI’s potential. Our workshop is led by Chelsea Murray, a data scientist at ING with a Masters in Machine Learning and Machine Intelligence from University of Cambridge. Chelsea will introduce you to the vast range of financial AI applications and give you practical experience training a machine learning algorithm to predict credit card fraud.

Christ's College Cambridge Economics Webinar
The Nobel Prize-winning Economist James Meade, best known for his theory of international trade and international capital movements, was a Fellow of Christ's from 1930-31.
We run an annual Year 12 James Meade Economics Taster Series each March with sample lectures and workshops, focusing on major current themes in Economics, as well as the legacy of James Meade. This event is an opportunity to explore what it is like to study Economics at Cambridge.
This Taster Series is aimed at academically able students who meet all of the criteria below:
- you are in Year 12 England or Wales, S5 Scotland or Y13 Northern Ireland.
- you attend an academy, school or college that does not charge fees (to anyone) and had less than 50 Oxbridge offers last year;
- you are studying:
- A level Mathematics AND Further Mathematics
- IB Higher Level Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches
- Scottish Higher Mathematics with the intention to continue Mathematics at Advanced Higher
- you are interested in exploring Economics beyond your standard school curriculum.

Investin Weekend Career Experiences
We are delighted to share with you our autumn term career opportunities, which are available in 19 cutting-edge industries. Students will learn directly from some of the world's best professionals - doctors, lawyers, engineers, investment bankers and more - through a series of live, interactive simulations which provide tailor-made professional experience to ages 12-18.
All programmes take place on Sundays at UCL; students can also attend live online if they prefer. We expect to be fully-booked for our most popular programmes by 30th September so students should register as soon as possible.

This year our Open Days will be held on and Friday 16 September. These are also the dates of the University of Oxford Open Days and so, most colleges and departments will be open to visit.
Why come to an Open Day at Christ Church?
Open Days present a fantastic opportunity for prospective applicants to come to Christ Church and chat to students and tutors, have a look around, and find out valuable information. Throughout the day, current students will be giving tours around Christ Church - they can tell you all about student life at the College and answer questions you have about navigating the admissions process, arriving at Oxford, work, social life, and much more. There are talks for prospective students on the admissions process, including demonstration interviews, and talks for parents and carers on college life, finance, welfare, and the admissions process. There are plenty of chances for prospective students to meet different Christ Church tutors in subject-specific talks and informal drop-in sessions. The Tutor for Admissions and the Admissions and Access Team will be on hand all day to answer any admissions-related queries you have. Prospective students and their family/friends/teachers are welcome to have lunch in the Hall.

As an apprentice economist, you will be studying for a degree in economics and putting your economic learning to direct use in the workplace by influencing high profile public policies with the best possible economic analysis. This is an exciting time to be joining the Civil Service, and with continuous support you will prepare vital briefings for ministers or the public, provide advice on policy options, and ensure the quality and appropriate use of economic statistics.
Economics is the study of allocating limited resources between unlimited wants. The Government Economic Service provides rigorous, relevant and impactful economic analysis to inform government decisions made on everything, for example, negotiating new trade deals, supporting regional growth or managing the UK’s debt.

A Jaguar Land Rover retailer apprenticeship is a perfect opportunity to work for a highly prestigious car brand whilst gaining valuable skills, knowledge and experience in the automotive industry.
The Jaguar Land Rover retailer apprenticeship programme are currently looking for apprentices all across the UK to become part of the team.
All apprentices will be employed full time in a local retailer. Apprentices will also receive a combination of on the job and off the job training. On the job training will include having an experienced mentor who will provide help and support with work completed in the retailer. In terms of off the job training, apprentices will have both face to face classroom-based training in one of our state-of-the-art training academies and online training through virtual classrooms.
