There has been a huge shift in the National Curriculum in Computing in the last 5 years. The move away from traditional ICT to Computing means students are now studying topics which are more relevant and beneficial to their personal and professional development in this digital age.

In Computing, students will study themes including problem solving and decomposition, coding, logic and algorithmic thinking. This means students should follow a set of instructions for solving problems. There is also scope in the curriculum for image Manipulation with Fireworks and PhotoShopto provide a broad and balanced Key Stage 3 Computing education. Lesson and subject content now reflects the benefits of new technology, such as app development, coding and making your own games. It is also important that the aspects of technology which challenge us, such as encryption and personal security are studied so students continue to understand the risks in a digital world. This develops and enhances the students’ existing knowledge and understanding of e-safety.

We aim to prepare students for life of digital competency however they choose to use computers moving forward, whether it is for personal projects or in employment. The Computing Department offers a Computing Key Stage 4 option for students wishing to take their studies further.
