Key Stage Information

Key Stage 3

We cover the statutory Citizenship programme of study as well as both aspects of the non-statutory PSHE curriculum.  In other words, we study everything from media influence, charities, crime, government and politics, to drugs (including alcohol), personal finance, sex and relationships - everything that isn't taught elsewhere in the curriculum.

We also focus on developing students' skills, with an emphasis on discussion and debate, research, presentation, enterprise and team-working.

Key Stage 4

At KS4, pupils can opt to complete the Edexcel Citizenship Studies GCSE course. This broadly focuses on rights, responsibilities, politics and the media. The course also includes a project to promote active Citizenship which pupils then write about in their second exam.

In addition, we cover key PSHE elements including drugs and alcohol education, mental health and sex and relationships education. This is part of the core lesson arrangement where pupils in years 10 and 11 have one lesson of Citizenship per fortnight for half of the year.
