Geography - Introduction

Geography helps students to make sense of their immediate and more distant environments.  It helps students to develop an understanding of the processes that give rise to patterns and variety on the Earth's surface and to gain a better appreciation and understanding of the variety and interdependence of physical and human factors.

The aims of the department are to:

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of our world.
  • Raise awareness of the environment and our impact upon it.
  • Develop and use skills of enquiry, presentation, analysis and evaluation.

Geography is an extremely popular choice at both GCSE and A-Level.  The department currently uses the AQA exam board for all external examinations.

Residential fieldwork is a particular strength of the department with trips to the East Sussex and North Wales undertaken annually.  The department also organises overseas fieldwork opportunities for students including visits to Iceland, India as well as to Nanjing, China to visit our partner school.
