As part of our Humanities specialism we work closely with our local primary schools - Moulsham Infants and Juniors, Mildmay Junior School, Beehive Lane Community Primary School, Perryfields Primary School and St. Michael’s Church of England Junior School, as well as Thriftwood Special School.  Through our Primary Liaison Teacher, Mr. Mason, recent collaborative work has taken place relating to environmental surveys, rivers and coastal fieldwork.

Humanities specilaism funding has enabled us to run an EAL (English as an Additional Language) course locally for ‘Muslim Mothers’.  We have provided both beginners and advanced courses and each class runs for 30 weeks from September until June.  In the past, we have also been able to fund work at local allotments and we hope to reinstate this with primary students very soon.

The specialism's impact on other areas of the school includes delivering whole-staff training on 'How to Teach an Outstanding Lesson' and providing funds to help purchase new resources in Modern Languages, PE and Maths.  We have also promoted whole-school literacy and reading by organising a campaign to encourage Sixth Formers to read more, as well as World Book Day events and the ‘Readathon’ for Lower School students that also helped raise money for children’s charities.
