Alwyn Hamilton visits Moulsham High School

At just 28 years old, Alwyn has lived all around the world, studied Art History at Cambridge University and worked in the Islamic Department at Christie’s Auction House. Her novels ‘Rebel of the Sands’ and ‘Traitor to the Throne’ are both extremely popular with Moulsham High School students and form part of a riveting Wild West meets Arabian Nights trilogy.  The final book in the ‘Rebel Trilogy’ is due for publication shortly but will no doubt similarly thrill its readers with its gun-slinging sharpshooting heroine Amani and her adventures within a richly evoked desert fantasy setting.

Alwyn spoke at length about the work that goes into writing a book and the research needed to form the background of a story. Students learnt how good research skills are essential for an author in creating convincing plots and for authentic character development.

Alwyn talked about her own favourite authors and the particular books that have inspired her writing, giving students an important insight into how the books you read when you are young can often help shape who you become as you grow older. She also led a workshop for students interested in creative writing and our budding authors took the opportunity to learn about the processes involved in developing their initial inspirations through to coherent storylines.

Both students and staff thoroughly enjoyed Alwyn’s visit and Moulsham High School Library would like to thank Just Imagine for providing this wonderful opportunity to meet with her.
